How to get the most out of your pulse questions using our different answer types!

This article will explore different questions that suit each answer type Stribe offers.

At Stribe when creating a survey, you have full control of how you ask your questions, and we have a selection of answer styles that will suit your questions. We have the option to choose from 4 answer types. There is:

  • Emoji answers: Express yourself with Stribe-designed emojis that go all the way from very happy to very unhappy.

  • 1-10 scale: Slide that scale and customize the labels to match the question you're asking.

  • Yes/no selection: Keep it simple with a straightforward yes or no.

  • Custom text boxes: Type away in up to 15 boxes, up to 120 characters each.

Each answer type has the ability to tell you different information, and interpret the questions in different ways. This article will show some examples of different types of questions and answer types.

Using a qualitative answer type such as the emoji answers, will help you to gauge a feeling of the workforce, and some questions that would fit this could be:

  • How happy do you feel discussing mental health concerns with your immediate supervisor or manager?

  • Are you happy with the current work-life balance provided by your job?

  • In your opinion, how happy are you in how (company name) handles diversity and inclusion?

  • How do you feel about the opportunities provided by our company for employees to volunteer or contribute to social causes?

Using a more simple answer type such as the yes/no can help you find out direct opinion, and can be useful for questions similar to ones such as:

  • Have you ever seen an instance where we’ve not treated our stakeholders with respect?

  • Do you view (company name) as an ethical company to work for?

  • I feel well-looked after in my workplace.

  • I feel happy and satisfied in my job role. (Set up recurring every month)

The 1-10 scale with customisable labels gives opportunity to give context to the numbers people are choosing, and could give great data for questions like:

  • On a scale of 1-10, my mental health is doing well this month. (Set up recurring every month) - using a scale of 10 being Extremely well and 1 being Not well at all

  • On a scale of 1-10, to what extent do you feel your work contributes to the overall mission and goals of (company name)? - using a scale of 10 being Fully contributes and 1 being Doesn’t contribute at all

  • On a scale of 1 to 10, how likely are you to recommend our company as a socially responsible and ESG-conscious employer? - using a scale of 10 being Absolutely recommend and 1 being Wouldn’t recommend

  • How much do you believe (company name) is prepared to adapt to evolving social and environmental challenges in the future? - using a scale of 10 being Completely believe and 1 being Don’t believe

Finally, the custom answer boxes allow for more flexibility in the response selection, as you can write your own answers for your workforce to choose. This could be useful for questions like:

  • To what extent do you feel empowered to make decisions related to your day-to-day tasks? - using a scale of Not empowered at all - Completely empowered

  • How well does (company name) support and trust employees to manage their workload effectively? - Custom answers using a scale of Very poorly - Excellently

  • How would you rate the effectiveness of the initiatives and programmes in place to support the physical and mental health of the team? - using a scale of Very poor - Excellent
